What is identity-level coaching?
Most coaching works on what you do. This works on who you take yourself to be — because that's the level your patterns actually run on. Here's the method, named plainly.
What's holding you back isn't skill or knowledge — it's the story you carry about who you're allowed to be.
Identity-level coaching works at that layer. Not your schedule, not your habits, not your next move — but the sense of self underneath all of it: the roles you've taken on, the expectations you've absorbed, the limits you've quietly agreed to. Change what's there, and behaviour follows on its own. Try to change the behaviour without touching it, and you spend your energy holding a shape that keeps wanting to snap back.
That's the whole premise. Most growth stalls not because people lack effort or information, but because they're trying to out-perform an identity that no longer fits. The work is to update the identity — structurally, not as a pep talk.
Two structured approaches, used together.
Built4More coaching rests on two methods. Both are practical, both are testable in the room, and neither is vague.
NLP: the structure of your inner experience.
NLP — Neuro-Linguistic Programming — works with how your inner experience is built: the images you run, the inner dialogue you hear, the feelings that arrive a half-second before you choose. Those aren't random. They have a structure, and that structure shapes how you respond long before conscious thought catches up.
When you can see that structure, you can change it. Not by arguing with yourself, but by working directly with the way the experience is put together. That's why a shift in a session can feel less like a decision and more like something settling into place.
The Self-Concept model: updating who you take yourself to be.
The second approach comes from the work of Steve Andreas on self-concept — the inner representation of "who I am." Your self-concept isn't a slogan or an affirmation. It's a structure built from lived examples: the moments, images and sentences your mind has filed under this is me.
Because it's a structure, it can be worked with directly — and updated. Not by deciding to think more highly of yourself, but by changing what the self-image is actually made of. This is the difference between believing something about yourself and it simply being true of you.
How it differs from therapy and goal-coaching.
Identity-level coaching sits between two more familiar things, and does neither.
Therapy treats what's broken — it looks backward to heal injury and dysfunction. Goal-and-habit coaching looks forward — it sets targets, builds routines, and holds you accountable to them. Both have their place. Neither works at the layer this does.
This work assumes you're not broken and you don't need another plan. It works one level beneath both — at the self that makes the plan, and the patterns that quietly decide what you'll let yourself do. That's why it can move things that more effort and more strategy never reached.
Structural, not abstract — and you feel it in the room.
- It's done in the sessions — no books to read, no videos to watch between calls.
- It's testable: you notice the shift directly, usually by the second or third session.
- It changes the pattern at the root, so the result holds without constant effort.
- It's named plainly. The method isn't the pitch — the work is the product.
Built for a specific kind of moment.
This is for leaders, founders, and high performers at a point where the old version of them won't carry the next chapter. It tends to find people at a few particular turns:
Leaving finance — rebuilding a sense of self once the number is no longer keeping score. Living between countries — when you've rebuilt your life abroad and the one thing that didn't make the move was you. Founders and leaders — when the patterns that built you are starting to drain you.
Different doors, same work underneath. If you read this and something quietly says this is me — that's where we begin.
A simple "can we talk?" is enough to start.
